U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.26%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.26%, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.38%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.78%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 5.24% or 2.54 points to trade at 50.99 at the close. Meanwhile, Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 0.17% or 0.55 points to end at 321.24 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was down 0.27% or 0.73 points to 265.83 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which fell 3.12% or 3.41 points to trade at 105.83 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 2.66% or 7.17 points to end at 262.15 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was down 2.44% or 3.11 points to 124.37.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were West Pharmaceutical Services Inc (NYSE:WST) which rose 14.51% to 319.68, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) which was up 5.24% to settle at 50.99 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which gained 4.70% to close at 285.60.

The worst performers were Organon&Co (NYSE:OGN) which was down 15.04% to 24.86 in late trade, SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) which lost 8.44% to settle at 314.94 and Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which was down 8.40% to 130.31 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Intuitive Machines Inc (NASDAQ:LUNR) which rose 251.41% to 44.77, TravelCenters of America LLC (NASDAQ:TA) which was up 70.77% to settle at 84.43 and Sorrento Therape (NASDAQ:SRNE) which gained 56.11% to close at 0.26.

The worst performers were Atlis Motor Vehicles Inc (NASDAQ:AMV) which was down 28.24% to 1.22 in late trade, Iveda Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:IVDA) which lost 26.12% to settle at 1.81 and Liberty Tri (NASDAQ:LTRPA) which was down 25.77% to 1.21 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2197 to 828 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2428 fell and 1232 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged.

Shares in Intuitive Machines Inc (NASDAQ:LUNR) rose to all time highs; up 251.41% or 32.03 to 44.77. Shares in Atlis Motor Vehicles Inc (NASDAQ:AMV) fell to all time lows; falling 28.24% or 0.48 to 1.22. Shares in TravelCenters of America LLC (NASDAQ:TA) rose to 5-year highs; up 70.77% or 34.99 to 84.43.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 10.64% to 20.17.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.04% or 0.75 to $1,846.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.59% or 0.46 to hit $78.13 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.64 to trade at $84.74 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.12% to 133.96.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 103.98.
