U.S. stocks trade higher as Dow and S&P 500 build on record gains

U.S. stocks were trading higher on Monday afternoon, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 built on record highs while investors await third-quarter earnings from Bank of America Corp., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley and Netflix Inc. due later this week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was rising 156 points, or 0.4%, to around 43,021.

The S&P 500 was up 42 points, or 0.7%, to about 5,856.

The Nasdaq Composite was gaining 161 points, or 0.9%, to roughly 18,502.
