WHO’S NEXT?
That’s exactly the question that struck a lot of wrestling fans when Bill Goldberg announced that 2025 will be the year where he will have his retirement match. Goldberg hinted his plans during a segment with SEC Network.
“The news of the day is per three executives Nick Khan, Chris Legentil, and Paul Levesque, in 2025, Goldberg is having his retirement,” he started.
While things look set in stone with his plans, the details have yet to be fully revealed. No one knows who Goldberg will face and the timetable remains uncertain.
However, there could be hints that Goldberg might be setting his sights on Triple H or maybe Gunther.
Or maybe things might reach an interesting turn if WWE books Goldberg against Bret Hart, a wrestler who has a personal beef with the former WCW superstar.
“I think we know who the subject or the victim, probably the frontrunner right now…But you know 2025, Goldberg makes his return and retirement match. I got a couple months to get ready. No date, no time, we’ll see,” reiterated Goldberg.
A career blessed with gold
Throughout his career, Goldberg has been renowned for his feats of strength and at one point he garnered a monumental 173-0 streak during his WCW days. Eventually Kevin Nash ended his dominance at Starrcade 98.
As WCW collapsed, Goldberg took his talents to WWE where he lasted until 2004. By 2016, he decided to make a return to professional wrestling, undergoing another stint with WWE. He was later inducted in WWE’s Hall of Fame in April 2018.
Despite his spectacular moments inside the squared ring, Goldberg has also been criticized for being one of the most dangerous in-ring performers ever, with his superkick against Bret Hart and his botched match against The Undertaker, highlighting his flaws. Hart was forced to retire due to the damage he received from Goldberg’s superkick, which caused a deep animosity between the two wrestling legends.
