The median interest rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.99% as of November 7, which is 0.11 percentage points higher than yesterday. Additionally, the median interest rate on a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.13%, which is 0.13 percentage points higher than yesterday. 

Federal Reserve policymakers are weighing another interest rate cut this week. According to Freddie Mac, 30-year interest rates rose for the fifth week in a row, closing out October at their highest since August. According to The Labor Department’s latest jobs report, the U.S. added 12,000 jobs last month. The Fed is trying to balance the cooling labor market and easing inflation as it tries to achieve a soft landing. Fed policymakers will consider that report and other economic data during their meeting on Nov. 6 and 7.

Analysts expect Fed officials to reduce the federal funds rate by 0.25 percentage points, lowering the rate to a range between 4.50% and 4.75%. Though the reduction isn’t as hefty as the half-point cut made in September, experts predict another cut in December, and more in 2025.

Today’s 20-year fixed-rate mortgage interest rate is 6.88%, 0.25 percentage points higher than yesterday.
