US Stock Market Close (February 28), Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq: Wall Street shares staged a strunning across-the-board recovery on Friday, with stocks like NVIDIA, Goldman Sachs, Amex, JPMorgan and Apple rising 2-4 per cent, after US President Donald Trump’s latest remarks on his planned tariffs for America’s major trade partners and worse-than-expected jobless claims data kept investors on tenterhooks the previous day. All sectors witnessed buying, with spaces like consumer staples, consumer discretionary, energy, financial, healthcare and industrial being at the forefront of the bounceback.

Uncertainty surrounding Trump’s announcements this month has created ripples across major markets around the globe, including his threat to impose 25 per cent tariffs on imports from the EU.

Donald Trump meets Volodymyr Zelenskiy

A meeting between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ended without what could have been a crucial deal for both sides to jointly develop natural resources, after the two leaders exchanged verbal blows at the White House.

The event added to uncertainty over Ukraine’s war with Russia for investors already worried about red-hot consumer prices in the US.
