Because you can’t predict the future, CM Punk isn’t thinking much about when he’s going to retire from the ring.
The 46-year-old Punk, who is just over a week away from his first WrestleMania main event, told the Metro that he has no immediate plans to step away from in-ring competition. With WWE running fewer house shows now and the schedule being less taxing, Punk is putting less damage on his body.
“No, because you never know what’s going to happen,” Punk responded when asked about retirement plans. “If you would ask me when I was 26 if I would be wrestling when I was 46, I would have been like, ‘No way.’ [laughs]
“The business has changed so much, the miles that we put on our bodies for years and years and years, and now we’re here, and we’re wrestling maybe once a month, we’re doing one show a week.”
Along with wrestling, Punk has ambitions of getting more acting work. He signed with talent agency Paradigm last year and has booked roles in Syfy series “Revival” and horror movie “Night Patrol.”
Punk told the Metro that he thinks WWE’s partnership with Netflix could lead to WWE talent crossing over into other Netflix projects. He also mentioned acting alongside John Cena as something he would like to do in the future.
“The Netflix thing is interesting, because I think they want to specifically find projects not only for me, but other superstars that they feel can cross over,” Punk said. “I would love to do stuff with Cena. I would love to do stuff with anybody, really. I’m in it to learn. And in that respect, I’m an artist. I want to do stuff that’s fulfilling.”
Punk vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins will headline night one of WrestleMania 41 on Saturday, April 19.
