Dow Jones Today: Stock Futures Edge Down, Nvidia Stock Split Takes Effect

Gains:

KKR (KKR): Shares jumped 10% after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced Friday the private equity firm would join the S&P 500 index along with cybersecurity company CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) and domain registrar GoDaddy (GDDY). CrowdStrike rose 5% and GoDaddy was 3% higher.

Southwest Airlines (LUV): Shares jumped 7% on report by The Wall Street Journal that Elliott Investment Management has built an almost $2 billion stake and plans to push for changes to prop up the airline’s lagging stock.

GameStop (GME): Shares surged 9% after a wild finish to trading last week that included trading halts, Keith Gill’s first livestream in three years, an unexpected first-quarter results announcement and plans to sell more stock.

Losses:

Nvidia (NVDA): Shares in the AI star fell 0.6% in premarket trading after the chip designer’s 10-for-1 stock split after market close Friday which makes stocks more affordable for many retail investors. 

Illumina (ILMN): Shares fell 2% on S&P Dow Jones Indices’ announcement that the genetic analysis firm would be removed from the S&P 500 index as would human resources consulting firm Robert Half (RHI) and Texas-based bank Comerica (CMA). Robert Half and Comerica were down 1% each in premarket trading.

AMD (AMD): Shares fell 3% after Morgan Stanley downgraded the chipmaker’s stock to equal weight from overweight, noting that investor expectations are “too high” for its AI business.
