The Nasdaq Composite was leading the major stock indexes on Monday, thanks to a big boost from chip stocks.

The Nasdaq turned higher and was up 0.2% in recent trading. The S&P 500 was up slightly, but only about 194 of its members were rising. The Dow, which features fewer tech firms than the other two major indexes, was down 84 points, or 0.2%.

Energy was the S&P 500’s top sector with a gain of 1%. Utilities were also up 0.9%, with Constellation Energy and Vistra the second and third-best S&P 500 performers, respectively.

The technology sector was up 0.5%, led by First Solar, Super Micro Computer, Lam Research, and Enphase Energy. The iShares Semiconductor ETF was up 1.2%. Nvidia stock was up 0.7%, too.
