Equity mutual fund inflows dip 9% in September, AUM hits ₹75 lakh crore

Mutual funds in India recorded a moderation in equity inflows in September, according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). Net equity inflows stood at ₹30,405 crore, down from ₹33,417 crore in August.

The industry’s total assets under management (AUM) rose to ₹75.61 lakh crore in September from ₹75.18 lakh crore the previous month, marking steady growth despite softer inflows.

Among equity segments, large-cap funds received ₹2,319 crore, compared with ₹2,835 crore in August. Mid-cap funds garnered ₹5,085 crore versus ₹5,331 crore in the prior month, while small-cap funds attracted ₹4,363 crore, down from ₹4,993 crore.


Sectoral and thematic funds saw a sharp drop in inflows to ₹1,221 crore from ₹3,893 crore, and ELSS funds recorded an outflow of ₹308 crore compared with a marginal inflow of ₹59 crore.

Hybrid funds inflows also slowed to ₹9,397 crore, down from ₹15,294 crore in August. New fund offers raised ₹1,959 crore, lower than ₹2,904 crore a month earlier.

On the debt side, liquid funds witnessed significant outflows of ₹66,042 crore, compared with ₹13,350 crore in August. Corporate bond funds posted an outflow of ₹1,444 crore, and credit risk funds saw ₹256 crore exit. Dividend funds recorded an outflow of ₹168 crore.

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continued to attract investors, with inflows of ₹8,151 crore, up from ₹7,244 crore, while gold ETFs saw robust inflows of ₹8,363 crore, sharply higher than ₹2,190 crore in August.

The data suggests a cautious approach by investors, with a preference for ETFs and gold as safer avenues amid volatile market conditions.
