On Thursday, the Airdrie and District Community Foundation handed out $50,000 to a number of different local organizations.

A registered charity, The Airdrie and District Community Foundation allows people and organizations to donate tax-deductible funds to a lasting financial legacy that will benefit Airdrie for years to come. Those who donate have the option to pick where their funds go.

Kelly Boudreau, the vice chair (and on the board) for the foundation, is thankful that the foundation is able to hand out such a large amount.

“The fact that it’s only going to get bigger every year is pretty exciting to us.”

Those that received funds include:

  • Peer Mediation and Skills Training – $1,270
  • Community Links – $10,430
  • Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society – $1,500
  • BGC Airdrie- $5,000
  • Airdrie Food Bank – $10,000
  • Project Linus Airdrie – $2,000
  • Bethany Airdrie – $5,700
  • Vecova Calgary – $1,500
  • Airdrie Health Foundation – $6,500
  • Airdrie Public Library – $4,600
  • Thumbs Up Foundation – $1,500

Boudreau explained that the current goal of the foundation is to reach the $2 million principal fund mark so they can keep growing the amount they hand out each year.

“It’s all about awareness and people knowing that it’s a great place to give and that their money will be given back to the community forever.”

Last year, the foundation handed out $30,000.

Since the early 2010s, the foundation started with a $11,000 fund, which has now grown to over $1 million.
