Orange County’s sidewalks will likely be revamped soon, according to Orange County government officials. The county’s leaders will invest more than $25 million in 26 miles of sidewalks.“Sidewalks provide a safe path for pedestrians to walk along rather than walking directly along a given roadway,” said Eric Haertjens, Engineer II, Orange County Public Works Engineering.The improvements come with a collaboration with LYNX staff for the Accelerated Transportation Safety Program and Vision Zero initiatives, which address transportation projects using the county’s existing revenue sources.The county will use taxpayer money to fund $100 million in transportation needs over five years, with the full breakdown on ocfl.net.The Safety Program is projected to allocate $55 million toward county projects including sidewalk roadway lighting, sidewalks, and safety improvements, and the other $44 million will go toward transit projects for LYNX buses to operate more frequently and bus shelters.
